Frequently asked questions

What are the Trustees interested in funding?

The Trustees may only fund initiatives or organisations that qualify under the funds created by the Wills.

Except as provided in the funding guidelines the Trustees do not set themes, or areas of preference, to fund each year. As the people managing the organisation, you are best placed to know the priority areas for your organisation.

How much can I apply for?

The average grant provided by the Fund in 2022 was approximately $35,000. You are encouraged to limit your grant request to $50,000 but requests over this amount  will still be considered but if it is successful, the amount provided may be scaled back.

Does the Collier Charitable Fund provide multi-year funding?

Our general practice is to provide grants on an annual basis. However, the Fund has provided a small number of organisations with multi-year funding in recent years and may continue to do so.

Applications that request funding for more than one year will be considered but even if approved we will still require applicants to update their applications annually. Ongoing funding will also be subject to a satisfactory acquittal report in respect of the funding already received.

If a partial grant is received are there any guidelines on how the funds are to be used?

A partial amount of funding is generally only provided if it appears from the application that these funds can be beneficially used either for a scaled down version of the project outlined in the application or in conjunction with funds received from other sources. If this presents difficulties, recipients should contact the Executive Officer to discuss.

Can I receive detailed feedback on why my application was not successful?

The Fund is not able to provide feedback on why an application was not successful. Applications are usually well written and worthy of support. The total value of the applications received each year always well exceeds the funds available for distribution. As a result, it is generally a matter of priorities determined in the context of all applications received in the year.

There are limited funds available and therefore, unfortunately, it is impossible for all applications to be supported.

Are there any guidelines on how the support of the Fund can be acknowledged?

Generally, the Fund has no objection to being acknowledged in relation to a grant; it should be noted that the Fund does not insist on being acknowledged.

To assist with any acknowledgement a copy of the Fund’s logo and monogram are available to be used in publications or on a website. Please contact the Executive Officer to arrange for access to these items.

When will the grants be paid?

Grants will be available for payment once audit clearance of the annual accounts has been provided, usually around the end of October each year.
