Support for RFDS Townsville Base

2023 Grant: $28,500
Purpose: New vehicle purchase
Beneficiaries: All
Total Grants to date:    $122,400
Area: Aiding other Australian charitable causes

A new base vehicle will proficiently equip RFDS Medical Officers to deliver optimal health care to members of Townsville and surrounding communities each year.

The RFDS Townsville Base provides aeromedical retrieval and inter-hospital patient transfer services to northwest Queensland. A Base vehicle is critical in supporting RFDS staff to deliver optimal healthcare and ensure operational efficiencies. The current Base vehicle does not meet the operational needs of the Townsville Base due to its size and age.

Of the nine RFDS aeromedical Bases across Queensland, RFDS Townsville Base is the 3rd busiest. The need for a reliable vehicle that meets the operational needs of RFDS staff is imperative. The Base vehicle is required to transport medical officers to attend important training and professional development, transportation of medical equipment and resources, as well as undertake community engagement for the purposes of health promotion and prevention.

Funding is sought for a new RFDS Townsville Base vehicle which will assist in the delivery of essential services (at least 2000) to the community. The new vehicle will provide the following much-needed improvements including:

  • Large rear storage for transporting medical equipment, supplies and resources and improved ergonomics for lifting heavy medical items.
  • Protection of medical officers through improved vehicle safety features and offroad capabilities for delivering rural and remote health services.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle to attend important training and professional development.
